Our Story

Play · Wonder · Connect

Riri's was built on a simple belief: play is how children learn about the world—and the people in it.

Through play, children imagine, create, solve problems, and build confidence. They learn to share, take turns, care for their surroundings, and see themselves as part of something larger.

As an intergenerational toy museum, we're a place where children, parents, and grandparents can slow down, spend real time together, and rediscover the joy of play.

Open-Ended Play

Many of the toys here are intentionally simple—blocks, figurines, loose parts, light and shadow. Objects that invite curiosity rather than deliver instant answers.

Unlike toys with a single "right" way to play, open-ended toys let children imagine, experiment, and create their own possibilities. The same wooden blocks might become a castle today, a spaceship tomorrow, and something entirely new the day after.

It's often through these simple toys that children develop creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Growing Through Play

At Riri's, play isn't just about having fun.

Every visit, children practise sharing, taking turns, tidying up, and showing consideration for others in the same space. Small actions—but they become habits that last well beyond childhood.

We hope every visit nurtures kindness, responsibility, and respect: for family, for peers, for the people who care for this space, and for the wider community.

Learning Journeys for Schools

We partner with preschools to design hands-on learning journeys that complement classroom education through exploration and play.

Our programmes spark curiosity, creativity, observation, communication, and problem-solving—through themes like light and shadow, movement and balance, sensory exploration, and colours and shapes.

We're not trying to replicate school. We're creating experiences that help children see learning in a new way.

A More Inclusive Community

Communities are stronger when everyone can participate and contribute.

Through our partnership with YMCA, we create meaningful gig opportunities for youths of different abilities—helping them build confidence, gain workplace exposure, and develop practical skills in a supportive environment.

We're also proud to employ retirees and mature workers as Play Guides. Their patience, warmth, and life experience enrich the space for every family—while keeping seniors active and connected.

To encourage intergenerational visits, we offer a special admission rate for guests aged 60 and above. Some of our favourite moments happen when grandparents and grandchildren discover toys and stories together.

Play It Forward

Through Play It Forward, families and supporters can sponsor play sessions for children who might not otherwise have access to enriching play experiences.

So far, more than 30 children have enjoyed complimentary visits to Riri's. It's only a beginning—but we're committed to growing the programme and making meaningful play accessible to many more children.

Some families have even woven Play It Forward into birthday celebrations, turning a joyful day into an opportunity to share that joy with others.

Looking Ahead

We don't aspire to be the biggest play space.

We want to be a place where children play freely, families connect meaningfully, and values like creativity, kindness, responsibility, and respect grow naturally—through everyday moments.

If, along the way, we can help preserve the culture of play, support educators, create opportunities for others, and bring generations together, we'll have done exactly what we set out to do.
